You don’t see streamers like Grimmz, Aztecross, Anthony Kongphan or !Frostbolt playing WoW or FFXIV. If I’m just in the mood for a grind there’s always Destiny. Death Stranding DC is calling me back and there’s a long backlog after that. I don’t need another years-in-the-making MMO to come along for me to find a better way to spend my time. NW was attractive to us because it wasn’t just another MMO and had a “real” combat system instead of more tab-targeting or ESO wet noodle sloppy combat. This is what’s funny to me is that a lot of us don’t give a damn about Endwalker releasing or Ashes of Creation or any other MMO for us to leave NW and play something else instead, because we’re coming from much broader gaming interests in the first place. So you had more choices to make and more things to defend against. This is instead of having to find the proper time to use an ability because of cost of using it.Īnd technically back in the stagger days you had 9 abilities to choose from, not six, as we had three weapon slots back then. It’s turning more into ESO where you have a rotation and swap through weapons as cooldowns come back online. Now I just rain arrows and flip to sword and board and use my defiant stance afterwards. Prior, you had to decide if you wanted to use your Rain of Arrows or your Defiant Stance because using one put both on cooldown since you mapped them to the same key. You have more abilities to use, but less choices to make. Let’s stop trying to talk like it’s objective, please for the love of god Knowing how to trade damage or get a hit in with out taking damage is a skill. The skill cap was raised when potions got a cooldown. It’s also really easy to make argument that the skill ceiling increased when the weapon abilities doubled, you have twice as many tools to use correctly now but you also have twice as many things you need to look out for. You also say that we have less “tactical” options however we have the second flurry of abilities to unleash which sort of would imply the opposite. The food/potions isn’t stagger related, that was just a change I think wasn’t good still. That’s still subjectively it’s not objective.

Not to mention the removal of global cooldowns has allowed people to just swap weapons mid fight and unleash another flurry of abilities (like the aforementioned hatchet’s “ha ha, can’t kill me!”) instead of having to actually think about when to use them. Nor can we really stop people, great axe aside, from just breaking off combat to eat food to heal.Ĭombat is objectively worse now because the number of tactical options have decreased and the skill ceiling has been lowered. And by removing stagger and it’s related systems, we now have little resource to stop healers or channeled attack spells.
